Brandon Gamagami was born in Kewanee, Illinois, and raised in Homer Glen. Before business, before Rankwyre, he was a wrestler, cutting weight, drilling, and learning that hard work outlasts talent.
He earned a spot at the University of Illinois as a biochemistry major and carried a 4.0. On paper he was headed straight for medicine, and the path could not have been more real: his father is one of the highest-volume robotic surgeons in the world, so Brandon had grown up watching exactly what the finish line looked like.
The safe path was right there
Almost nobody walks away from that. A 4.0, a pre-med track, and a surgeon father who had already proven the whole thing was possible. It was the safe bet, the respectable bet, the one everyone around him expected him to take.
But safe was the problem. Brandon did not want to inherit a script that was already written for him. He wanted to build something of his own and find out what he could do when the outcome was not guaranteed.
Walking away
So he left. Not because he could not do the work, but because he wanted a different kind of work. The 4.0 stayed on the transcript. The plan changed.
What looked like a risk was really the same instinct that had driven his family for a generation: bet on yourself, outwork the doubt, and build. That decision set up everything that came next, a sales career that scaled fast, and the company he would go on to co-found, Rankwyre.
